*"Oh, y?know, would you just for once, not remember every? little? thing!"* -Rachel
I'm sad.
I'm sad b/c it's come down to the wire, and I don't want to leave San Diego. I'm sad b/c I literally have no means of staying out here on my own. I'm sad b/c I love my friends. I'm sad b/c I didn't get to see Rob today. I'm sad b/c boys who say they'll call me.. don't. (what else is new, really?)
I'm not a big fan of being sad, but such is life, I s'pose.

*"(reading) Knock-knock. Who's there? Ross Geller's lunch. Ross Geller's lunch, who? Ross Geller's lunch, please don't take me. Okay?"* -Chandler
Last nite, I was reminded a thousand times over WHY I decided to become a United States Marine. Last nite was the Marine Corps Ball. A celebration of 226 years of the greatest fighting force in America today. Now, for anybody who doesn't know me (who might be reading this), the USMC is the most important thing in my life. I'm not joining for insurance, or skooling, or monetary gain. I'm joining b/c I can't wait to be a United States Marine.
Sitting at my table at the downtown Marriott, surrounded by countless men and women in Dress Blues, I was reminded of the Marine Corps pride. Every year, they celebrate their birthday in stlye. They dress up, and show off the title they have earned. Standing for the presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, and the cake ceremony.. I was reminded of the Marine Corps dedication. The best of the best were picked to participate in the ceremony, and they did so with hearts SO full of pride, I'm surprised you couldn't feel it wherever you are. Those men stood at attention, at ease, and at parade rest for 45 minutes, and never faltered once. They stood there as the anthem of our country played to honor the United States. As the Marine Corps Hymn played to honor their Corps. As Taps played honor the 11 Sept. dead. They stood there b/c they believed SO strongly in what they were standing there for. Looking around the room at EVERY Marine in dress uniform locked in a position of attention thru the entire ceremony, I was reminded of the Marine Corps honor. I only hope to feel this pride, this dedication, this HONOR in myself on day.
Th ceremony ended with what I consider to be one of the most amazing things I've seen in a long time. The lights went out. Lasers and strobe lights lit up the room. The sounds of mortar fire ad bombs came thru the speakers, and smoke filled the room. At the same moment that left everyone wondering what was going on, the far doors of the room opened, and the loudest war-cry heard the entire nite was sounded. Five men clad in full camoflauge battle gear ran into the room hauling the biggest American Flag I have ever seen. They ran to the front of the room, and planted that flag in the most beautiful Iwo Jima reenactment. The entire room exploded into thunderous applause and "OOO-RAHS." It was a site to behold.
I only wish that every one of you was there to see it. This is the reason why our country is and always will stand. This is the reason you and I can sleep in peace at nite knowing that we sleep under a blanket of freedom. This is the reason why we live in the greatest Nation on earth.
This is the reason I am a patriot.. and a future United States Marine.

| A Few Good Men. |

*"Fine! Thank you for warning me. At breakfast, I?ll be on full alert for room painting and sex weapons."* -Ross
Last nite, I watched A Few Good Men. I believe that AFGM is the most gorgeous Marine Corps movie out there. It's all about the Honor and dedication to Corps that come along with being a Marine. There are SO many scenes and lines I can refer to that portray the USMC at it's best. I think I'll use my favorite.. Col. Jessup's (Jack Nicholson) testimony speech. Enjoy.
You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand at post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to. -Jack Nicholson

So, today I'm gonna' go down to the beach in La Jolla. Just 'cuz it's probably the last time I'll get to go there before we move. La Jolla is really pretty. As long as you can look past the rich snobs that live in the bazillion dollar houses, and the traffic strait from hell.. the scenery is really pretty.
I've loaded my camera with a brand new roll of film. La Jolla is a great place to take pictures, which just happens to be something else I love to do. I took a few photography classes in high skool. The teacher taught us how almost anything you look at can be turned into a beautiful picture.
I love to surround myself with pictures. It makes me feel like my life is complete. My room, (before it was packed up) is full of pictures. Of friends, and family, and random things I thought were pretty. A picture is the only thing that can catch somebody at their best moment, and immortalize them in that moment forever. Pictures are the only things in this world that are constant. They make me happy.

Last nite, I talked to my new friend, Fred for 4 hours. It was definitely the best conversation I've had with a boy in a long time. I really like Fred. He's funny, and smart, and cute. He's a writer, and a comedian, and he's gonna' be a Soldier. He just makes me smile. And it's funny.. b/c I actually think I could hang with Fred. Maybe even for more than just a little while.

This ladies and gents, is my personality.

MENTOR (Submissive Extrovert Abstract Thinker)
Like just 6% of the population you are a MENTOR (SEAT). Some would call you the most powerful and influential of all people. Those people are wrong.
The reality is that you DON'T really WANT to impose personal views or beliefs on others. Yet you are extroverted and intelligent, and you like to get involved. So you help others with the pursuit of knowledge. You're the reason that people say "teachers are also students." You are as much a learner as a master, and this satisfies you.
You won't die a lonely death, but toward the end you'll grow introspective, wondering if your life meant anything. This will last for decades, and you'll die after your spouse.

Yeah, anyway. I just wanted to tell everyone (..who actually reads this) that my new friend Orin is totally cool. I like talking to people who are actually intelligent and funny. I also like to talk to people who use correct spelling and grammar. Orin seems to be all of these, therefore he deserves to be mentioned in my journal. :)
On another note, the song I dig the most lately is I Want Love by Elton John. The video rocks.

For some reason, the tab key on my computer has decided not to work. How annoying.
The Dbacks came back in the bottom of the 9th to beat The Yanks 3-2. I kinda' wanted The Yanks to win.. just to give NYC a reason to rejoice. But what a sweet victory for AZ. In their 4th year as a team and their 1st appearance in the Series, they take the Yanks who have been around since the dawn of time, and who have been in the Series at least 700 times. I'm happy for AZ. (It is now time to focus all my sports-energy on football!)
Time to go do laundry and pack boxes. Oh the joy that is my life.
(P.S. For anyone who reads my Dland journal, this entry is pretty much the same as my latest entry there.. except I left out my review of the lame Emmys.)

1. Skool 2. Strait 3. Tho (altho, also) 4. Enuff 5. Effin' (effin' isn't really spelled wrong.. but I like to say it a lot. Oh, and I stole it from Sara.) 6. Thru 7. Hoar

The Chargers game pretty much rocked yesterday. As did the Dallas 'Boys. Whatta' good day. Of course, the man I end up living with (probably not marrying, since that is way overrated) has to be all about sitting around in his boxers on Sunday and watching football. Said man ALSO has to get as excited as *I* do about the games. This is included, but not limited to..
Yelling at the TV as if it were a person.
Jumping up and down like a child on Christmas.
Getting pissed at bad calls by the Ref.
Went to the Eclub on Saturday nite. That place is definitely not as cool as it used to be. The boy I am going to the MC Ball with was there. He's cute. However, he is only 20.. and Michelle doesn't involve herself with boys younger than her. The Ball will be fun tho.
I think I shall go now. Maybe Carl will decide to talk to me.

Today is 27 October. Today is ALSO my little sister, Natalie's 3rd birthday! :D Of course, sometimes I wish I was still 3. I wish I was still at the age where I could have 50 wrapped presents in front of me, and still be the MOST excited about the balloons and streamers. Happy Birthday, Nattie.. :)
I pulled out my fancy-dress from amidst the dust bunnies it was residing in yesterday. 3 years ago, I paid like, 200 bucks for this dress. I wore it to the Marine Corps Ball, and then I packed it up. Now, I'll wear it for the 2nd time on 09 November - again, to the MC Ball. The MC Ball is the most beautiful display of men in Dress Blues ever. I think everyone should go.. at least once in their lives.
And that's all I have to say about that.
